Post-mortem
.......................................................................................................
Post mortem drawings are used for the identification of deceased
persons that are facially unrecognizable due to advanced decomposition
or facial trauma. Using bone structure, eye placement, hair color
and any information about age, race weight, etc. provided by the
autopsy, the face is reconstructed. The talent level of the artist
then becomes important. Bringing the face to life without adding
too much interpretative detail is a very important part of the identification
process.
Post mortem drawings can also provide an opportunity for relatives
to view the body when it would otherwise not be possible.
Dalene uses crime scene and autopsy photographs for this process
and stresses that the better the quality of the photographs, the
more accurate details she is able to detect. This greatly effects
the outcome of the person's face she is recreating.
